Campervan Rental - How to Get the Best Deal

Annie Harris asked:

When thinking of renting a campervan or a motorhome, it is important to consider the vehicle that best suits your needs. This way, you’ll get the best value for your money and have a wonderful holiday vacation.

Firstly, you have to compare quoting costs. In order to fully enjoy and benefit from what you pay for, during vehicle selections, you should compare quotes. Ask yourself why this vehicle is much more expensive than the other one when they both have the same number of berths or the same facilities. Probably because there are daily costs involved. To help you decide, here some things to consider:

1. Check the bonds. Do they require a security bond to be paid upon pick-up of the motorhome? Compare how much the difference is for each.

2. Ask the operator why there is a difference in quotes. Bonds are excess costs that are needed to insure the vehicle in case something happens to it, such as accidents for example. Bonds are included in the excess reduction options. Most operators have an all inclusive package ready, but clients can choose other options, too. Before renting a vehicle it is a good idea to know the coverage and cost. Bonds are refundable, only if there is no vehicle damage.

3. Renting more than one vehicle? Ask the operator if they can recommend multiple hire discounts.

4. There is also such a thing as one way rentals. Ask the operator about their one way rental terms. Is the fee separate from the daily rates?

5. Lastly, are there any taxes and other rental fees to be paid? Remember to ask this, for some operators do not always quote this up front.

So much for comparing quotes. When it comes to the vehicle, it’s a different story. In order to get what you pay for and enjoy the vehicle that you need. Ask yourself what would you be comfortable with during the length of your vacation or rental duration. Here are important things to consider:

1. Are there children coming along? They might need additional space and maybe booster seats.

2. The number of people traveling may be the same number as the berth of a vehicle.

3. Do you need a toilet and shower?

4. What is the age of the vehicle? This is important because the age (usually 0 – 3 years) dictates the cost of the vehicle because it’s a new model, and it might come with modern and new facilities such as a DVD player, colored TV, etc. This is also something to consider when traveling with kids.

5. Also note the seating configuration and lay-out of the vehicle. Consider the physical setting, such as the access for example.

6. Would you want to drive an automatic or manual?

These are major things to consider when renting a motorhome or a campervan rental. By taking these guidelines into consideration when renting a campervan, you will be sure to get the best deal worth your money. But there is one thing you shouldn’t forget. The best deal is when you are having fun!

The Freewheeling Lifestyle

Ross Hinton asked:

hell, owning a motorhome could change your life. Most of the UK’s 2,000 + touring parks will welcome motorhomes - so there is a wealth of beautiful places waiting to be explored. You could consider visiting the dramatic highlands of Scotland, the quaint Cotswolds or the sandy south coast beaches. The freedom to just pack up and go will be yours.

Whether you are looking for a base to pursue a favourite sport or hobby, or have the desire for a grand tour of Europe, a motorhome will offer you comfort and convenience. You can travel at your own pace, with the knowledge that you can relax when you arrive at your chosen destination.

Sureterm Direct is the UK’s leading specialist motorhome and RV insurers, having insured thousands of motorhomes in its 10 years of trading, so it has issued a list of useful ‘Motorhome Tips’ for choosing a Motorhome.

Top tips for making that Motorhome choice

Size isn’t everything - don’t assume that the largest or most generously equipped model is the best. Think about the smallest living space that would have all the facilities you need. Often smaller models will be more versatile.

Home or away- Are you considering touring abroad as well as in the UK? Will you be using your motorhome for short breaks or long holidays, in the summer or all year round? (People even take motorhomes on ski-ing holidays). Does it have the space for everything you need?

Versatility- Which motorhome will give you maximum use? Will you use it as an everyday vehicle as well as for leisure? A compact high top conversion or elevating roof model might be just the ticket. Or are you planning a year-long Continental tour? Coachbuilts have lots of room and can be ideal for changing climates.

All mod cons- If you plan to only stay on sites with full facilities, you may not need all the on-board equipment options. If you plan to explore off the beaten track, you will need more. Today’s vehicles often come with satnav, satellite TV, DVD, cab air-con, MP3 connectors etc, etc…

Parking restrictions- Make sure that there is enough access and room for your chosen vehicle on your driveway. Alternatively, there may be secure storage facilities nearby.

Join a club- To have access to a wider range of parks and travel discounts, as well as technical advice and feeling part of a community, consider joining one of the many motorhome clubs.

Driving courses- If you have never experienced driving a larger vehicle or you would just like some expert tips on loading, parking and taking a motorhome abroad, contact The Caravan Club or The Camping and Caravanning Club – both of which run courses.

Try before you buy- If you are not sure that the motorhome lifestyle is for you, or the size and layout suits you, why not hire a vehicle for a holiday? There are plenty of companies offering this service, simply check the specialist monthly magazines or www.motorhomelifestyle.co.uk.

Get an insurance quote – try calling a specialist insurance company like Sureterm Direct before you buy a motorhome to get an idea on the cost of insurance. Specialist motorhome insurers will often offer many benefits and preferential insurance rates to motorhome owners.

A motorhome will be your key to a new leisure lifestyle. Whether it’s chasing the surf in a campervan or living it up in a luxury apartment on wheels, it will let you see places you have never seen before and experience things that you have always wanted to…
